| Tan’s Eton Properties to launch more projects this year |

ETON Properties Philippines Inc., the listed real estate firm of the Lucio Tan Group of Companies, is accelerating project launching this year to take advantage of a forecast upswing in the property sector after elections.
In a lunch briefing on Tuesday, Eton president Danilo Ignacio said the company is targeting to increase sales by an estimated 20 percent.
“The trigger for a real estate boom, based on history, is a new administration. In my view, 2010 will be better than last year,” said Ignacio, noting that interest rates, alongside rising overseas remittances, continue to favor the industry.
This year, Eton is launching 8 new projects—four for residential, three commercial projects and one business process outsourcing (BPO) building. Ignacio said Eton introduced five projects last year, mainly during the second half when the real estate sector was showing a clear upward trend.
The company also wants to tap the tourism sector as it explores the possibility of putting up hotels and serviced residences. Ignacio said these may be put up within the Eton Centris complex in Quezon City and properties within the Makati central building district, respectively.
“We are studying both residences and the hotel market but the initial indication we got is that we might move toward serviced residences,” noted Ignacio. |
This year, Eton will launch the 40-story Eton Tower Makati, a mixed-use condominium located at the corner of V.A. Rufino and De La Rosa streets in the country’s financial capital.
The company also plans to offer the first condominium in its 12-hectare Eton Centris development in Quezon City as well as the third phase of North Belton Communities in Novaliches. Another residential project targeted for completion this year is the River Grove, an upper-middle market development, within Eton City in Laguna.
Commercial projects to be introduced this year are a lifestyle strip in the 68 Roces project in Quezon City and an events venue within Eton Centris toward the latter part of the year.
Ignacio said the BPO sector remains strong as he noted that the economic problems of the US have “bottomed out.” Eton is now working on the second BPO building for Centris.
The company inaugurated yesterday the Eton Cyberpod Corinthian, which is almost 70 percent occupied.
Eton is likely hikes sales by a tenth last year, Ignacio said. For the first nine months, Eton’s net income grew to P67 million, reversing a P120-million loss during the same period in 2008.
This came on the back of strong revenues which grew to P1.5 billion. |
